Western Pennsylvania’s Armstrong County was named in honor of Revolutionary War Major General John Armstrong, who also represented Pennsylvania as a delegate to the Continental Congress. The county was formed in 1800 from sections of Allegheny, Lycoming, and Westmoreland counties. Kittanning is the Armstrong County seat. Armstrong County is the home of Parker City, “The Smallest City in America,” with a population of just 799 people. It is the only city in Armstrong County. Other boroughs within the county include:

The Fort Armstrong Folk Festival is held in Kittanning along the banks of the Allegheny River and includes a hand-crafted artist market, historical and musical entertainment, vehicle displays, fun for kids, classic festival food, and much more!

Kittanning is also home to a community rink and pool for over 50 years in the Belmont Complex.

In Ford City, you will find the Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center, which promotes environmental education and resource conservation in a quiet wooded setting.

Yellow Dog Village is a historic mine workers’ village in Worthington, hearkening back the 1920s. Visitors can visit or even stay in the village as it was during that era and participate in village life.
